AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Thank you for considering to submit your manuscript to us.  Following these guidelines will increases authors’ chances of a prompt response from us and ease our editorial distribution, which will enhance a smooth peer-review process and a prompt decision regarding acceptance or rejection for publication. Please take note of all the instructions and follow them closely to ensure your manuscript falls within our scope.

Originality, Trustworthiness and Misconduct 
Submissions must fall within the scope of the Journal. It must include an assurance that the manuscript has not been published, submitted or sent for consideration elsewhere. Proof of language editing,  done by native/L1 language speakers or experts in English Language, if required, should be submitted alongside the article as a supplementary file. Please be aware that only 10% or below similarity index will be accepted, and that all manuscripts will be submitted to the Turnitin software before processing. However, the Editor is rightfully obliged to make suggestions and/or suggest modifications, refuse any manuscripts with stated reasons without recourse to whether the author of the manuscript is by invitation or a voluntary submission before publication.

IJER and ERRCDF condole zero tolerance for research misconduct such as; plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others. Practices, such as fabrication of data, manipulation of data, images, visual objects, and other resources used in the research process are strictly prohibited and are considered forbidden in IJER. Authors are expected to present an accurate and account of the data collection and their respective analyses. The true reflection of the work done should be presented, anything other than that is considered unethical and would be rejected.  You will receive acknowledgement of receipt of your submission within three days, and manuscripts outside of our scope will be returned with the acknowledgement.

In the case of allegations regarding research misconduct, the publisher (ERRCDF), alongside the journal editor shall follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)'s Core Practice in dealing with such situation.

Ethical Considerations

The issue of research ethics is very important and must be keenly followed to protect both the researcher, the co-researchers, participants, respondents and every object and subject elements involved in the study. In education research, just like other fields of study, adhering to ethical rules involving human beings, vulnerable populations, confidentiality, anonymity among others should not be compromised. IJER adheres to Ethical Guidelines for Educational Research” published by the British Educational Research Association (BERA) which may be perused and applied accordingly.

Formating of Manuscripts  
The integrity of our review process is sacrosanct, therefore, concerted efforts should be made by all authors to remove all the indications of identity from the “Manuscript” to ensure a blinded relationship between the author(s) and the reviewer(s). These steps among others will be 100% considered before initiating the review process. These should;

  • Prepare two different documents; the first document named "main manuscript" must only contain the title of the manuscript, the abstract and the entire article. The second document which must be named and uploaded as "supplementary file" must contain the title, author(s) information, abstract and the email address of all the authors. 
  • In the case of the author(s) citing their previous works, the name(s) must be replaced with “author and year” in the text and also replicated in the references session instead of the authors' name, article title, etc
  • By naming your documents, author(s) identification should also be removed from the properties of the files, instead, name your main article with "main manuscript" and information file as "supplementary file"

Manuscripts must be prepared with Microsoft Word in 1.15 spacing using a 12-point font in Times New Roman. You are advised to employ italics rather than underlining. Please note that figures, tables and other graphics must be placed at the appropriate place within the text according to the authors’ interest. The recommended length for manuscripts is between 4000 and 7000 words, including references, an abstract of 250 words or less, and any appendixes. Each heading and sub-headings must be numbered e.g, 1., 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc. In the case of multiple authors, the manuscript must indicate one author as the corresponding author in the supplementary file.  Before submission, the author(s) must check our presently published articles to ensure that your article is correctly formatted. Article not formatted according to our format will be rejected unprocessed. 

Citation and Referencing Style

All sources used must be acknowledged. Author(s) must ensure that all in-text citations are done appropriately, and with no omission in the reference section. That is, all citations in the manuscripts must be referenced and all references must have been cited. IJER adopted the America Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition publication guidelines and should be strictly adhered to.

Disclosure and Conflict of interest

It is the author’s responsibility to disclose any conflicting, competing and financial interest that may influence the result, the production, and construe or result in liability. All official sources of financial support should be disclosed. The author must, therefore, notify the Managing Editor should there be any conflicts of interest.

Permissions and Acknowledgement

It is the author’s responsibility to obtain written permission for any already published tables, figures, text passages, and illustrations. The author should create a separate section before references for acknowledgements of people, funding organisations, grants, etc.  This section should be titled “Acknowledgments” just like other sub-headings. However, permission must be obtained from the acknowledged person(s), organizations, among others by the author.

Publication Process

Authors are requested to register and submit their manuscripts using submission our submission link https://injer.org/injer/about/submissions. The submission and review gateways are designed to guide authors and reviewers step-by-step throughout the process. Should you be unable to provide an electronic version, please contact the Managing Editor prior to submission at OmodanBI@errcd.com. Article consideration processes are as follow:

Step 1: Author register and submit the complete manuscript in “word doc” following double-blind peer review policy and formatting prescription of the journal.

Step 2: The Managing Editor checks the submitted manuscripts (subject to rejection if not within the journal scope, and not fulfilling the standard research criteria).

Step 3: The articles are subjected to a plagiarism test (above 10% similarity result will be rejected and sent back to the author(s) for possible correction).

Step 4: The article will be assigned to a suitable member of the editorial team (Content verification will be ascertained and may be rejected if found unsuitable).

Step 5: Two expert peer reviewers are selected from different institutions to review the manuscript. Thereafter, the section editor evaluated the review results to make a decision based on the reviewer’s recommendations. The likely recommendations are:

  1. Accept in its condition,
  2. Minor Revision required,
  3. Major Revision required,
  4. Resubmit for another review process,
  5. Reject and resubmit elsewhere.

Step 6: In the case of 1, manuscripts are processed for publication. In the case of 2 & 3, the author(s) have to submit the revised manuscript through the revision menu, and manuscripts are checked by the managing editor, section editor, and the reviewers (may be rejected if not satisfying the reviewer’s queries). In the case of 4, a new review process is initiated.

Step 7: The accepted manuscripts will be formatted and sent back to the author(s) for approval.

Step 8: Copy-edited version of the manuscript is uploaded and shared with the author(s) for final approval before final publication.

Peer Review Process

Interdisciplinary Journal of Education Research follows a double-blind peer review policy. This means that the identity of both the author and reviewer remain anonymus to each other.  Articles are subjected to a rigorous peer-review process after the appropriate editorial members may have decided the quality and the relevance of the article to the journal. At this stage, the editor may reject or accept the article. If accepted by the editor, the article will be sent to two carefully selected peer reviewers with expertise in the subject area of the article. The two reviewers are expected to give reports on the article upon which the assigned editor will make a decision based on the recommendations from the reviewers.

If revisions are required, authors will be notified and informed accordingly and will be requested to resubmit the revised version of the article within a certain period of time. If the revision is minor, the editor will make the final decision and in the case of major revision, the article will be reevaluated by the same reviewers and their recommendations will inform the final decision.  An accepted article will be sent for copyediting, and the copy-edited version will be shared with the corresponding author using the online system of the journal for possible, proofreading, corrections of technical issues and return the copy to the editor.

Review Guidelines

Interdisciplinary Journal of Education Research values the role of reviewers in the double-blind peer review process towards publishing quality works, therefore, the reviewers are expected to accept for review only articles in which they have sufficient expertise. All the reviewers are requested to ensure the following:

  1. The manuscript is within my area of expertise.
  2. I can dedicate the appropriate time to conduct a critical review of the manuscript.
  3. All the reviewers should declare their conflict of interest if any and can decline the review if conflicts exist.
  4. Interdisciplinary Journal of Education Research follows the blind review process so the manuscript and the review process should remain confidential during and after the review process.
  5. Review of a manuscript should be fair, just, critical, honest and should not be influenced by;
  • The origin or the geographical location of the manuscript,
  • The religious, political or cultural viewpoint of the author,
  • Gender, race, ethnicity or citizenry of the author.
  1. Reviewers should only accept manuscript(s) that they are confident of and willing to dedicate appropriate time in reviewing. However, your prompt submission of review is our prayer.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

In order to finance and maintain our high-quality open access articles, IJER requires the author(s) of accepted articles to pay a one-time Article Processing Charges (APC). There are no charges for submission, rejected articles, figure, colour, length of articles and there are no hidden and/or surcharges whatsoever. APC is payable when the article has been accepted for publication and when an invoice has been delivered. APC is used to cover all costs related to publishing, online hosting, and the archiving of each article. The current rate is 150 USD (ZAR 2,300) per article, this is subject to review from time to time. The corresponding author will be required to make the payment and provide proof of payment within the stipulated period that will be stated in the invoice. The article will only be published once full payment has been received.

Copyright and Licensing

 Interdisciplinary Journal of Education Research is an open journal and provides immediate open access to its published contents. The articles published by Interdisciplinary Journal of Education Research is licensed under a  Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives licence which permits non-commercial re-use (download, read, print, search, copy, distribute the link, etc) of an open-access article, as long as the original author and source are properly attributed, and provided the article is not modified or altered. The author(s) grant the publisher (ERRCDF) permission and license to publish the article and be recognised as the original publisher. Authors also grant any other third party users the right to non-commercially use the article freely as long as its original authors and citation details are acknowledged without prior permission from the publisher or the author.

Author Self-Archiving Policy

Interdisciplinary Journal of Education Research permits and encourages authors to post items submitted to the journal on personal websites or institutional repositories (such as social-networking sites, ResearchGate and Academia.edu) both prior to and after publication while providing bibliographic details that credit, if applicable, its publication in this journal.
